CMM Frequently Asked Questions
For your convenience, below is a list of frequently asked questions regarding ITP Group, our products and services.
Q. Is it easy to upgrade my existing CMM to ITP Group software such as Axel?
A. Yes, most manual coordinate measuring machines can be upgraded relatively easily. A new counter card will need to be installed to provide the interface between the software, PC, XYZ machine axes and the touch probe. In case of CNC controlled coordinate measuring machines, you will require a motion controller such as a Renishaw UCC 1/2 or Deva004. Motor amplifiers and other machine connections such as limit switches and emergency stops are also connected to the controller.
Q. What are the key differences between Axel Foundation and Axel Lite CMM Software?
A. The Axel Foundation and Axel Lite CMM software programs use the same software architecture, technology, integrated user interface and both create the same native PAR file format. Both products offer collaboration functionality that enriches, expands and simplifies your measuring processes to save time and money. However, Axel Foundation CMM software provides the following key additional capabilities:
- 3D Solid Capabilities
- Extensive Reporting
- Part Digitising
- Presentation Graphics
- CAD Import & Management
- Geometrical Tolerancing

Q. What are the advantages of a Horizontal Arm system over a Flexible Arm System for manipulated tube measurement?
A. ITP Group have developed software and hardware driven by our client requirements, and not only can ITP Group Horizontal Arm Systems measure tube assemblies more accurately than Flexible Arm Systems, they can then go on to measure the individual brackets, end fittings, ‘T’ sections and fixtures, something that Flexible Arms cannot.
