Coventry University, renowned for its automotive design expertise, has invested in the latest car design studio equipment for its 33-acre campus in the city of Coventry. Warwickshire based manufacturer ITP Group have recently supplied two CNC Clay Milling Systems to allow students and industry professionals alike to produce full-scale clay models of future vehicles – many of which may go into full production.

The ITP Group Systems can mill a full-scale vehicle in clay, foam or ureol for automotive design reviews in under two days – something that once had to be undertaken painstakingly by hand.

Coventry and the Midlands has long been synonymous with automotive design, due in part to local connections with industry giants such as Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin.

Mark Varney, of Coventry University’s School of Art and Design said, “We’re delighted to once again have the facilities here to stand out from other universities. ITP Group machinery is installed in some of the best car design studios around the world, and it’s fantastic that people here get to experience industry standard applications first hand. Many of our students go on to become Clay Modeller’s or Designer’s within the automotive industry, and it’s vital that they have experience using the latest technology.”
